In this world of ours the major concern all around us now is how to reduce the growing pollution level and how quickly the fossil fuel is going to be exhausted

The above graph indicates that we are reducing the C02 emission level with every passing year but not rapidly enough to put a check on global warming. Automobile being the single largest cause of carbon dioxide pollution and also a major fuel fossil guzzler ,the future trend is to build vehicles which are fuel efficient , less pollutant and eco-friendly. Efforts in such direction are reflected through new generation vehicles like Bio-Flex vehicles, Hydrogen vehicle and Hybrid vehicle.

A Bio-flex vehicle is a vehicle which runs on two types of fuel blended together mainly Ethanol or methanol with diesel or gasoline. The name flex came because the engine is capable to run with any proportion of the mixture of diesel and ethanol. Bio-Flex vehicles or more commonly known as Flex fuel vehicles are different from Bi- fuel vehicles , where two different types of fuels are stored in separate fuel tanks and at any point of time the vehicle runs on one only.

The majority of the bio-Flex vehicle runs on gasoline and ethanol mixture . Although capable of running at any proportion from 100 gasoline to 100 ethanol , it has some practical problems . Too high proportion of gasoline and less of ethanol cause more C02 emission where as very high proportion of ethanol ( more than 90) causes starting problem in cold weather.

In hotter countries like Brazil a bio-flex vehicle gives maximum efficiency at E-85 ( 85  ethanol) upwards whereas in colder countries like Canada or during the winters it is recommended to use E-70 or E-75 . Currently Brazil, US, Canada and Europe are the major market for bio-Flex vehicles.

With a high need to preserve fossil fuel and also reduce C02 emission with a cost effective automobile solution Bio-Flex vehicles like Peugeot 407 , Citroen C4, SAB 9-5 are fast gaining popularity.

With every passing year new development in the fuel mixture like the all new P-series fuels for Bio-Flex vehicles taking the C02 emission norms to a new level. A comparison of emission of C02 for different technology vehicles are listed below

The above table clearly indicates that petrol or diesel vehicles cause more pollution than Electric, Bio-Flex or hybrid vehicles. Hydrogen vehicles could not get a place in the table because hydrogen vehicles do not emit any C02. Although the figures look impressive from the above table but the main problem for a hybrid or Flex vehicle is the cost. They are currently costlier than a diesel or gasoline powered vehicle. Hydrogen powered vehicles are still at very nascent stage of development and are at least 15 years away before they will be available commercially and can be afforded by most of us.

Till five years back also we thought that C02 levels would be going down to the level of 120gKm by the year 2030 but thanks to the recent developments in automobile industry, these new concept vehicles may bring down the average emission levels to even close to unthinkable 100 gkm in next twenty years or so. We can only hope for the best
