Case study Corporate Management- Case study- Balfour Beatty Limited

Balfour Beatty Construction is one of the leading construction companies in United Kingdom. The company is currently engaged in the process of designing, developing, creating and delivering undertaken projects that will best suit needs of clients. It has now touched annual turnover of 1 billion and always aim to be the best contractor not only through expansion programmes but also by trying to be the best in the industry.
The various services offered by the company are professional services, construction services, infrastructure services and support services. (See Appendix 1 for the list of activities in each categories.)

Business environment
Balfour Beatty plc is a London based construction, engineering rail and investment Services Company. It is one of the largest construction companies in the UK, and the 15th largest in the world. It is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. (Balfour Beatty, 2010).

It provides commercial building services, from small specialist schemes through to complex projects in the UK, US, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore. (Markets, n.d.). This range from the small construction schemes to the large construction schemes which are highly complicated in nature. Currently the project that the company is having in its hand is the Arsenal Emirates Stadium, London, and the Sanderson Arcade, Morphett, in the UK (Commercial buildings, n.d.) is operating in a business environment for which the recovering process is in progress due to the economic recession and changes in the policies implemented by the government. The company has to consider both internal aspects and external aspects. The business environment for the company is considered to be considered to be a little complex.

The environment in which the company is operating is changing continuously. Due to the changing technology and change in the construction and support services, the company is forced to implement new strategies that best suit to the needs and wants of the clients. This will enable the organization to meet the demand of the customers. The various factors or elements that are important in the business environment are the availability of raw materials, human resources and financial resources to meet the upcoming challenges. The changes in the policy for the land also serve a major role that affect the functioning of the organization.

In the global environment, the countries are becoming more and more domineering and they are further inclined towards generating employment opportunities in their own countries and discourages those opportunities for the foreign companies. Balfour is registered as a public limited company in England. Being a public limited company there are a lot of rules and regulations of the governmental bodies that has to be followed strictly. The company mostly concentrates on the work place safety and environmental protection that is one of the important aspect mentioned in the government rules and regulations.  From the above discussion it can be said that Balfour Beatty is operating in a forceful and a multifaceted environment.
